Biography

Iain Donaldson is a founding member of the Liberal Democrats (1988), having never been a member of any other political party.

First elected to Manchester City Council in 1992, Iain represents the Burnage Ward and is now serving his 5th consecutive term of office.

Iain is the Shadow Executive Member for Housing, Employment and Economic Regeneration on Manchester City Council.

Iain campaigns to ensure that local communities are properly represented in the development of the policies and practices that affect their lives.  He entered politics to get the Council to listen to local people, a battle that he says is always going to need to be fought.

Iain has a strong record of campaigning on planning and environmental issues.

Iain has twice stood for Parliament as a Liberal Democrat Candidate.  First in Denton and Reddish in 1997 and second in Manchester Blackley in the 2005 General Election (achieving an excellent 7% swing to the Liberal Democrats).

Iain is a Governor at Green End Primary School on Burnage Lane where he chairs the Staffing Sub-Committee, and a member of the board of the Burnage Multi-Agency Group.

Iain works as a research secretary at the University of Manchester.
